Help Help with Motorola Droid

Hello everyone,

I have a Motorola Droid with a custom ROM on it. I bought it off of craigslist and I used it for the first couple of weeks with no trouble at all.

I recently tried to reset the phone to factory condition. I did this by doing a hard reset. Afterwards, I did not use the phone for a couple of days and then tried to power it back on. The phone did not come on, so I tried to recharge the phone through the wall outlet. However, even after charging the phone overnight, the phone would not boot up.

The strange thing is that whenever I plug in my phone, the screen will come up with the Motorola logo, but the phone will turn off and then come back to the logo and keeps going in that loop. I did manage to get the phone up and running at one point, but the battery would not charge.

I thought it may be a battery issue, but I hope its not. I look forward to your input and suggestions.

Thank You

You will probably get faster help by posting to the specific forum for your phone. This should be it: http://androidforums.com/droid-support-troubleshooting/

I'm not familiar with your phone, but you may have to boot into recovery mode, which I believe is power on and volume down simultaneously. However, the residents of the support section are best suited to help you, which I'm sure they will do. Not sure how a custom ROM changes strategy.

Good luck.

Update

So I was able to boot the phone into safe mode. Where do I go from here?

Thank you everyone for your help, seems like I'm getting closer to having my phone back :D

There should be an on screen menu, accessible with your volume buttons. Select the desired option. For you, it may be "wipe device." or restore to factory settings.

I restored to factory settings and rebooted the phone, but the phone does not power back up. I plugged in the phone to the charger and the phone is stuck in a loop where it boots to the motorola logo.

I would do a battery pull (because that's my semi-solution to just about everything) ;)

Then get back into recovery mode again and try restore factory settings again.

My problem is that I have a Droid X, so I don't know exactly what your on-screen options will be.

You can also call your carrier's tech support because they may be able to boot you into recovery mode with better assistance and/or more options for recovery.

If all fails, it may be a hardware issue - or even a bad battery?

Edit: Just occurred to me, try removing the SD card, and then reboot. Sometimes a corrupt file will do this.

Thank you so much for all the help. After working on the issue for awhile, my phone is back up and running!

After I did everything mentioned in this thread, my phone still wouldn't power on. So I decided to try and wipe the phone and reset the ROM to factory form. I plugged the phone into my computer and it started to charge. Shortly after, the phone turned on and started to work. I guess my wall charger is bad? In any case, my phone is good now, thank you all again!
