ARRRRRRGGGHHHH!!

Ok, I've let that out now. Now I need to take a deep breath and ask for some help please. I appreciate that only a gfew of us have this phone (I got mine yesterday and since it's only released today, a few others may have one.)

I love my S3 with its 64GB storage card for all my music. Only I can't get the damn stuff on.
Google has, in its wisdom, changed how it all works in ICS so it used MTP which is great if you're on Windows, not so great on a Mac.

When I connect my S3, nothing happens. The Mac doesn't see it. Nothing happens on the phone. YOu used to get a selection thing pop up on the S2 - even with the ICS update. Not here you don't.

I've downloaded the Android Transfer Protocol thing that Google tells you to use if you are on a Mac but unfortunately, it doesn't seem to support the S3 yet. Despite being connected, the computer still asks me to connect my device. Grrrr.

The ICS menu system doesn't have a USB menu section anymore and turning debugging on and off doesn't help.

I use iSyncr to connect and I tried connecting the phone anyway and iSyncr bizarrely does recognise the phone is connected to it. But when you transfer a track through it, it tells you there is an MTP error. So it's not actually transferring anything.

Anybody have any bright ideas? It's a big enough deal for me to have to take my S3 back if it's not able to transfer my 40GB worth of music onto.

Thanks

Use WiFi by sharing the music and download it to the phone. Not ideal, but that is how it is when you decide to use limited products.

Also, you can buy for a $1 or $2 a uSD adapter and just plug it into the Mac.

I know it doesn't solve the issue of your computer not recognizing the phone, but do you have a card reader you can insert the microSD card into and transfer the files directly onto the SDcard that way?

If you don't have one, I would recommend one anyway, as I have always found file transfer speeds to be massively superior to those of transferring across USB to the phone.

I think I may try that and do it that way. It's a bit of a faff but I guess needs must in the short term. Thanks so much!

Hi there,
A user had a similar problem with the SGS2 on their mac that was fixed by enabling USB debugging (Settings>Applications>Development).
Could give that a try?

Ignore me if it's a completely different issue!

OK, this is driving me to tears. Please help before I throw myself under a bus.

OK, so I have a good 50GB of music I want to transfer. I can transfer it across to the card using a card reader but what I want to know is:

* where do I copy it? Do I just drag my entire iTunes folder to the root directory?

*Will that transfer my entire library plus playlists etc?

*Will that also transfer album art etc or do I have to go around the houses?

iSyncr Wifi does work but it has two probs - first, each song takes about 30 secs (it'll take days to transfer 50GB) and also, it only saves music to the defaukt directory which is the 16GB internal memory with no option to tell it to send to the card.

I want to check before I start as the transfer will take hours.
Thanks in advance!

Please don't mention doubletwist - I hate it!!

Thanks

Sync Your Life with Kies

Simplify, sync and keep life up to date with Kies. Manage music, movies and photos. Backup precious contacts and calendars. Or download apps and podcasts and automatically upgrade device firmware. Kies conveniently syncs your life across all your devices.

Give that a try, should have it on the phone already if not get it on Google Play, download the Mac version and you should be able to sync and transfer most everything that way.

Have you tried settings - wireless & networks - more settings - nearby devices, there should have an option of download to - USB memory or SD . Hope it helps.
