Help with navigation

I'm new to all these tech stuff. An really have no idea about the 2g of daya, what that means. But If I were to use the att&t navagation app, how much data does it use? I realize it depends on how long I am useing it, but just say I'M needing it for 5-10 mile span. Will it eat up my data plan?

Download maps while on wifi. Use offline, won't use any data. Can download small areas with Google, or just install Navfree or a similar nav app.
