Root Help with new droid razr maxx update

Hey I am new to this forum and I needed help. So I have the droid razr maxx and i have it rooted. As a lot of you know the new update came out recently and so I downloaded it and the phone did a reset and when it was all finally done it said the update failed. I am not sure if i should wipe all my data. If anyone could answer this or help me i would be really grateful thanks.

When you rooted your phone, did you freeze, or delete any apps/ bloatware?

If you froze any apps, then unfreeze them.

If you deleted any apps, then tell us you did then we can give more advice.

Either of these actions will not let an upgrade proceed it will fail.

Welcome to AF, were all here to help.

Hey Misleadb4 i just erased all my phone data and the same thing happend. The update finished after 2 hours and then the phone turned on and it said the update failed. I did freeze a few apps before i erased my data so i dont know if it is still frozen and i am not sure which apps i froze before since it was a long time ago. I dont think i deleted any apps but i might have a long ago. Thanks for answering and i hope you can help

afaik, you can't update while rooted. you'd need to use voodoo's temp unroot program to temporarily remove root privileges, then run the update, then run voodoo again to regrant yourself root rights.

and, from what i've seen, freezing/unfreezing is actually supported by the OS now, so i don't think that would have any bearing on it. but then i didn't root before i got the update. i knew it was coming, so i just dealt with it until then, because things like this crop up every single time. freezing via the OS is called "hide app", and it appears to function exactly like freezing them in TIBu. or at least that my experience, i just hid a few before the update. then, when i rooted, i went through and froze the crapware en masse.

Hey thanks for the help i am trying the temp un root and the update is downloading. I will tell you if it works once i am done

Unless you exlicitly checked the option, of erase data from SD card, the reset functionality will not erase the data from SD card..
All software and Cache data will be lost any how.

Do you have a custom recovery installed? You can't ota with one. Also freezing with titanium is not the same as disabling the software in the systems o.s.
To ota unfreeze/reinstall all stock apps. Uninstall custom recovery. Unroot.

If I were you, however,I would just use Matts 1.7 utility to upgrade. It's the exact same end result only easier.

Well lastnight i removed the root and erased the sd card and phone memory and the same thing happend. I dont have any custom roms working. But i think some apps may be frozen but i am not sure and i dont know what apps are needed for the update. Since i am now un rooted i think i might go to verizon about it. I did see other people having the same issue and it was resovled from unfreezing or re-installing inportant apps to the update. But once again i am not sure which appz are frozen if there are any.

Droid Razr Utility 1.51 [Contains 6.12.173 Fastboot Files] - DroidRzr.com

If you have a windows pc then download this onto pc, extract all, open, run batch file.
This opens a utility that will fastboot your razr back to an original state.

You need to have the motorola drivers installed on your pc first.
Then get your razr into ap fastboot mode.

Power off phone, then press and hold power, vol down, vol up buttons together for 20 secs or so. Then a menu screen will pop up. Volume down button will navigate you, and the volume up button will select the ap fastboot option. Connect to pc via usb cord.

Select option to restore razr. Done. It will take a bit to complete, but no more fuss and worries..

Good luck, hope this helps.

Edit; then check for updates on your phone. Youll have to do 2 updates to get to Ics. .211.
