Help with Note 5 action memo

Lee3344

Lurker
This is my second Note. Just got my 5 a week ago and thought I'd learn more about using the stylus and S Notes so went onto YouTube. Everything was fine until I tried to use the "pin to home screen" selection under the 'More' button in the upper right corner. The YouTube video I was watching had that option. My phone doesn't. It has all the other choices except that one. Does anyone possibly know why or how to turn it on if that's the problem.

Thank,

Lee

UPDATE: I found 'pin windows' in the security section and turned it on. When into 'action memos/more' and the option is still not there. Did I do something wrong?

What it does is let you pin one particular app when you are letting someone else use your phone. You open the recent apps and at the bottom right there is a push pin icon that lets you pin the app.

The YouTube video I watched shows the user using action memo to make a reminder note to himself and then going to 'More" and selecting 'pin to home screen' and the note shows up just like a post-it-note. There are many third party apps that offer post-it-note features but this was nice because you could do the same thing without adding another app to the phone. I wish I could remember the video I watched and I'd put a link in this thread.

I was trying to do things in a methodical way to figure out the answer to your questions but by mistake I changed to many variables before I got it to work and now I do not know what the fix was. With that being said, I did get it to work.

The first possibility is that the option only shows up once you actually write something on the Action Memo and think press the "More" button.

The second possibility is that the option was added after I installed the S-Note Extension Pack app from the Galaxy Apps store and then actually write on the Action Memo you want to pin.

I thought about the possibility of having to have an Action Memo first before looking for the pin option also so I did a test memo. Unfortunately, the option still wasn't there.

I just looked for your suggestion of installing the S-Note Expansion pack in Galaxy Apps but could not find it. What category did you find it under?

I found it from opening S-Note > All view > More > More Features

Got it installed but STILL 'no pin to home screen' option. Thanks for all your help but I give up at this point. I'll just get one of those third party apps.

I've only had my Note 5 for about 16 hours but I wondered if your home screen was full of icons and no place to place a note?

Just to be clear, you open an action memo, then write something (scribble even), then open the menu, and there is no option for pin to home?

knpjdad - I have nothing on my home screen but a digital clock and Google search (and the dock on the bottom of the screen).

Thirsty - My 'More" menu shows:

Link to action

Minimize

Set reminder

Edit as S Note file

Change background color

Discard

One other thing that shouldn't matter but maybe it does. Just like in the video I attempted to share a memo before I checked to see if the option was there.

I know where to find the Android version (mine is 5.1.1) but have no clue where the S-Note version is, thirsty?

It was at the bottom of the settings menu in S-Note. I know you probably are over the whole thing, but it just drives me crazy that we can't solve something that has to have a very simple solution.

Mine is the same as yours, thirsty. I think this may be proof positive that somebody "upstairs" just does not like me lately and is going to do everything in his power to frustrate the s*** out of me. lol

You could always try installing those other 3 add-ons from the more features menu. I felt the way you do now a few weeks ago. The clouds are clearing in my neck of the woods.

Hey Ron,
As a matter of fact I am using Nova. I had a Note 4 before this phone but I did not use the S Pen very much so that problem never came up. It's not important enough for me to switch launchers, though. I love Nova and will just have to get one of the third party app if I want a post-it-note reminder on my screen.
