Help with ring tone application

Huawei Mercury through Cricket - awesome phone! I feel like a moron for not being able to figure something out. I downloaded Zedge and have applied two separate ring tones (message alerts). The original tone I chose (pre-installed) always piggy backs the new tone I apply. I've gone through the settings and it appears only one sound can (should) be applied at a time, but it keeps kicking in. Any ideas?

You typically have to go into your messaging app, and poke around its settings to disable it's notification. What you're currently getting is the Zedge notification, then the OS notification. Disabling will take care of your problem.

Thanks for the input. I did as suggested, but to no avail. From what I can tell (I went through the settings on Zedge and read the FAQ's) there aren't any applicable filters that are contributing to the problem. I've also tried setting the tones through the home screen (settings) and through the settings option associated with messaging. It appears to be some sort of bug. I'm wondering if uninstalling the app and reinstalling it might help?

No, those other steps aren't necessary. Try this instead. When you enter your messaging app, hit your menu button. You should see a couple of choices, one of which be for the app's options. Rather than disabling it (as before), go to where you can select your ringtone; it should already be set to whatever tone you're hearing. Try changing it. With Zedge installed, you should get a pop up menu asking you to choose what "source" you want to choose your ringtone from, Android or Zedge. By choosing Zedge, you can pick from the notifications you downloaded (not just marked as favorite), and the app should use the one you choose.
