Hello and welcome to Android Forums santbir! :)

You have the Samsung Galaxy S2, "T", variant. (GT-i9100T) which is sold mainly on the Vodafone and Telstra networks in Australia and New Zealand.

It is idententical to the International version, (GT-i9100), save for the modem which differs, allowing it to run on those networks.

However, the kernels are the same and using this guide, here, you can root your phone using the KH1 kernel, here.

Since most custom ROM's are for the International, (GT-i9100), version and if you are not using it on the above mentioned networks, then it is OK to use the International modem.

However, if, as has sometimes been reported, there is any degradation of the signal, you can always download and install the, "T", variant modem to your phone afterwards, from here.

Having said that, the modem issue has nothing to do with your initial rooting of the phone... just some extra, free, advice.

Hello Ironass, thanks for reply

its means i have to use any other compatible kernel for my device? Is these kernel not cause in accident on my handset. Actually i am new and afraid for this trick because here is not any kernel for my device and i am going to use the other compatible kernel for my device.

I read your forum. What if i want to get my original kernel back to get my warranty back. Because you mentioned that after installing the insecure kernel handset will goes out of warranty so what is way to get my warranty back
i have downloaded the all files before i posted on this forum like s2 root.exe, odin, kies already installed on my laptop. but i download kernel from samfirmware.com. This website gave me only kernel which was not mentioned that it is original kernel or insecure. because you know that me need both kernel to root or maintain my warranty
please can give me the proper separate link for both original and insecure kernel. Because i don't want to take risk to install wrong kernel to damage my device
please reply with links and information

thanks again
santbir

If you do not feel comfortable or competent to root your phone then my advice is don't. Thousands of forum members have used that guide successfully but the choice to root, or not, is yours.

If you are rooting with a view to changing your ROM to ICS you will need your original firmware to revert back to in case of warranty claims. You can download this, here.

If you just want the secure kernel you can download that, here.

Both of these can be found here under, "Telecom New Zealand".

Oh blast!

I completely forgot that Multiupload is down.

Just Google the details for your firmware and secure kernel.

dear i struggled to much on google and others to find kernels. I also downloaded files from samfirmware.com but all these was useless. odin was unable to flash that kernel as i said on previous posts too. after struggling too much i cam here and sharing my problem with androidforum.com all these was useless
please help me bro. i have no other option

and also tell me will this server goes up again to download these files. there was no indication for down server. it was giving warning that file has been removed because copyright.

So, you already have the insecure, CF-Root, kernel from my earlier post, which you extracted and tried to flash via Odin as per the instructions in the, "Dummies Guide", am I correct?

You say that you have Googled for the original, insecure, kernel for I9100TDOKH1. You can download that, here.

Are you sure you are following that guide exactly?

ya i have downloaded the file but its only single file i am not sure that is insecure or original because nothing is mentioned on it. i have already told you i have downloaded it from samfirmware.com by loging in and searching for I9100TDOKH1 then i got only single file from there and tried to root my device. After that i have downloaded Odin and s2 root
kies is already installed on my pc

i enabled usb debuging on my device and then reboot it by pressing lower volume key+power key+menu key then after my mobile reboot in downloading mode and then i connected it to pc using usb cable

And i excecute odin checked auto reboot and f.reset time checkboxes and then clicked on pda to choose my kernel tar file my mobile was connected because it was showing me device added and ID com port was displaying in yellow color com:19 but then clicked start process started normally and hang up on setup after some time its exited without flashing my device and display fail error in red box

I also try to root my device with s2 root but give me error your device should be flashed with insecure kernel which was probably not flashed so i am sucks many time. ya i have kernel file but its useless My device is not flashing with this file please tell me.

You provide me link last when i clicked on it sucks page cannot be displayed. I am stuck

ya i tried it again throw anonymouse.org a proxy site i am unable to register now the form is in incorrect format and asking for capatcha but there is not capatcha field. so i am stuck again.

The CF-Root, insecure, kernel that you downloaded is, when extracted, (as per the instructions in post #1 of the, "Dummies Guide"), only one file. A .tar file which goes in PDA of Odin.

You do not need the secure kernel or the copy of the existing firmware for rooting. You really only need these in case you need to send your phone in for warranty. This is what the original firmware, which includes the original kernel in with it, is for.

The secure kernel, in the separate download is only required to get rid of the yellow warning triangle after rooting, if you want to. You could instead use, "Triangle Away", from the Play Store, to do the same thing.

You seem to have got yourself into a muddle with all these downloads.

I would suggest starting from the beginning again.

No I am still stuck nothing happened
i am again telling you what i did

Here is procedures and files

1. I copied my file in folder
a) I9100TDOKH1_I9100TDOKG2_I9100TTNZKH1_HOME.tar kernel file not sure secure or insecure

b) download the Galaxys2root.zip file and unzip too it gives me ( 1:- GT-I9100_ClockworkMod-Recovery_4.0.1.4.tar 2:- Odin3 v1.83, 3:- S2 Root.exe)

c) kies already installed on pc

d) then Restarted my mobile in downloading mode by pressing volume down+Menu+power button

e) connected usb cable with mobile and pc and usb debugging is enable on mobile

f) Now mobile is connect with odin and showing (0:[COM19]) in Yellow color ID:COM textfield and in Message area showing <ID:0/019> Added!!

g) Clicked on Auto Reboot and F.reset Time checkboxes

h) Then clicked on PDA and added the tar file here then clicked on start button

I) Now file I used is GT-I9100_ClockworkMod-Recovery_4.0.1.4.tar this file is found galaxs2root.zip file
and this time my device flashed i started s2root.exe and click on root device message appear your

how amazing i used file in galaxys2root.zip folder rather using kernel file i donwloaded first
but my problem is now where to find the original kernel file get back original firmware

but my device rebooted with yellow triangle and also i check superuser app is not found in my apps so what is problem is my phone rooted or not

and where found back original kernel to get my warrant back

b) download the Galaxys2root.zip file and unzip too it gives me ( 1:- GT-I9100_ClockworkMod-Recovery_4.0.1.4.tar

I did not know where you got this file from! Do not use it.

This is the CF-Root insecure kernel that you need to root your phone...

CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KH1-v4.1-CWM4.zip

This is the original firmware with a secure kernel in case you ever need to go back to your original firmware. Keep it safe on your computer. Do not flash it to your phone unless you want to go back to being not rooted.

I9100TDOKH1_I9100TTNZKH1_TNZ.zip

This is the kernel that is secure and comes with the above firmware and is the one that came with your phone.

Kernel_I9100TDOKH1.7z

This is used for removing the Yellow triangle at boot up, as mentioned in post #2 of, "Rooting Galaxy S2 - A Dummies Guide!.

oh shit,

is it give problem. i have rooted with this file

Hi Ironass,

I'm new to the Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100T from using an iPhone for many years now, been getting stumped reading all the threads until i came to yours. I've jailbroken iphones before with ease but when it comes to android phones, it seems like a whole new ball park and I'm just not sure what i'm meant to be getting, would you be able to run me through what to do ?

PDA: I9100TDULPB
PHONE: I9100TDULP4
Kernel: 3.0.15-I9100TDULPB-CL710191dpi@DELL154 #3
Build: IML74K.DULPB

Anyhelp would be great with this !

Cheers !

Have a read through ironass' rooting for dummies guide on here. I would link it for you but I'm using the phandroid app to post so I'm unable to do so. It is still on the first page of the all things root section, showing how much this guide gets used.

He may not be able to explain the sub atomic properties of a quark very well, but he certainly does know his gs2 rooting onions. :)

Cheers for that guys ! Worked out a treat, though weird thing happened tried both LPB kernels to no avail, kept getting the black screen after the samsung and triangle screen, but flashed in a LP9 one similar title and worked a treat !

Hate to bother again, but could i get a run down on how to install a custom rom, i'm getting confused on how to do it using CWM or any other method. And with using the Siyah kernel its been said i need, how do i go about this ?

Jailbreaking an iphone was easy, this is definitely miles apart.

It can sometimes happen that the specific kernel to match yours is not the best one to root with.

1. Download the ROM of your choice to your external SD card.

2. Read and download Hawker's, GS2 ROM Nuke script, to your external SD card.

3. Do a Titanium, nandroid and effs backup. See post #2, here.

4. Boot into Recovery mode, see post #2, here, and select, "install from sdcard" and then, "install zip from sdcard", and navigate to the GS2Wiper script and install. Then navigate to your new ROM and install it. After installation, select, "Go Back", a few times until you see, "reboot system now", and select this. Your phone will now reboot with the new ROM and will take awhile to do this the first time.

5. Now you will have to download your, "T", modem and flash this, using the instructions, here.

6. Now you can flash the Siyah kernel, which will have been over written by your new ROM's kernel, by using these instructions, here.

7. You can now use your Titanium Backup to re-install your app's.

Jailbreaking an iphone was easy, this is definitely miles apart.

Jailbreaking an iPhone does not allow you anywhere near the access and configuration that you can obtain with rooting an Android phone.

Thanks Ironass ! I actually tried it out before i saw your reply :P But i'm definitely going to follow your little tutorial here, you've steered me in the right direction from the start so full steam ahead on going through your tutorials !

2. Read and download Hawker's, GS2 ROM Nuke script, to your external SD card.

3. Do a Titanium, nandroid and effs backup. See post #2, here.
What i did was I flashed RevoltJB v2.1 and it included the siyah kernel on there using CWM without actually running that Nuking script you have included there, but i did do both a nandroid and efs backup. Is it worthwhile having a clean slate using the nuking script before flashing ?

5. Now you will have to download your, "T", modem and flash this, using the instructions, here.
Also i did have a problem receiving data from the network to enable internet use , but resolved that by adding in APN details for Vodafone. With regards to flashing the modem, it currently says baseband version: I9100XXLPS which i assume is the modem, but is it entirely necessary for me to flash the I9100TDUKJ1 modem on there, using CWM for that version ? Or should i leave it as it is ?

This i have learned the hard way haha, but i'm working on changing that now ! Thankyou Greatly for all your help so far, i look forward to customising and utilising the galaxy s2 to its fullest potential now ! You sir are a god of Android Knowledge!

Providing you followed the developers instructions, here in post #1, regarding installation, "2-Wipe Data/Factory Reset, 3-Format the System", then you should be OK.

The "T", modem is used by both Telstra and Vodafone in certain parts of the world, notably Australia and New Zealand, because of the frequencies they operate on.
