help with smileys

How can I get my handcent smiley pictures to appear when I write instead of . They appear like that naturally on blackberries but with android, smiley pics only appears with this:

Not sure if this would help, but here are a few things....

First, if the keyboard is similar to mine, in the lower right portion of the on screen keyboard you will see a key that shows "12#". Tap that key and your numeric keyboard appears. Then once in the numeric keyboard, in the lower left portion of the numeric keyboard you will see a key labeled "1/2". Tap that key and you will see several keys that corresponding to emoticons

Second, you can usually manually enter an emoticon by using Parsing... :name-of-smiley:
