I just downloaded terminal emulator but when I tried to type a command its screen disappeared. I tried again with no luck, even downsizing some apps to make room. What do I do now?

You mean the app closes the moment you touch the screen to bring the keyboard up? Or did you get as far as typing something?

I've never heard of this, but the obvious first thing to try is a different terminal emulator.

From your screenshot, you're using the 'Terminal Emulator for Android' app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm

It appears you were able to enter the 'su' command and that took you to root prompt (going from $ to #). But with 'Terminal Emulator for Android' if I'm not mistaken that leading 'uo_a205@android' string before you had entered 'su' should have changed to something like 'root@xxxxx'.
Is that the point where your Terminal just quit? If yes, did you root your phone and what method did you use? And if you've got SuperSU installed, did you allow TEforA root privileges? Also, do you also have BusyBox installed?

In fact the question wasn't mine, I posted the screenshot just to show how the terminal emulator app looks when everything is fine.

Yes I'm rooted and the emulator window always looks like that from the first time I installed it and it works flawlessly.
