Help help with using less data galaxy ace

Hi I am going abroad next week and am trying to sort my phone out before i go so I use as little data as possible while I am away .I have a contract with t mobile and understand i can purchase 20 mb of data over a week for a cost of
 
If you go to Settings, Accounts & Sync, you can turn off background syncing. That'll ensure that you only use data when you force an app to, but as a precaution, keep 3G turned off too except when you want it. There are apps on the Market that measure & even limit your data usage.
 
bigbaldbloke thanks for the reply ,is 3 mb per day much data ? , it doesnt sound much to me ,i will probably avoid playing my solitaire game as i guess that uses alot ,but would like to use the google search engine a bit and dip into face a book 2 - 3 times a day .
 
3mB really depends on how the game works, some have things like graphics stored on your phone, whereas others download every time you play.

You may be able to turn off 3G via the notification bar at the top - pull it down & look for the symbol. Others have it built into the Power button's menu (something like Disable Data), but the surefire way is Settings> Wireless & Network Settings> Mobile Networks & untick Data Enabled.

Hi Marcha ,yes I think the hotel has wi fi which we will use where possible .but will be nice to have the option also when out and about .many thanks
 
just a quick update ,i have gone into all my settings and have turned nearly everything off i can see ,and i am still using about 40mb a day .I must be missing something ,this is my first android phone ,which i love ,but for old farts like me there is so much to learn on settings stc
 
yes background sync is off ,when i go into settings -applications -running services there are a few things there ie face book ,sky news and other things where it says tap to stop ,i have tapped them all off and see if that makes any differance.thanks for your help
 
Have a look at that battery usage stat as well though mate, and remember whilst you're on holiday..... if 3g is off, no app can use ANY data!
 
thanks for your help budddy ,battery usage says cell standby60% wi fi 20 % phone idle 18 % and display 4 % ,this after i have turned just about everything i can think of off lol
 
Good man. Now use it as normal, WITH 3G TURNED ON, for a couple of hours & check to see if any apps have appeared on that list.
