Help help wth mb300 backflip

Yes I have a problem with my backflip any other android apparantly doesn't have this problem but idk were to turn so I turn to u my friends I can't download and use any apps off the internet only apps from the market ther are no settings to change this(like androidphones have this feature to allow untrusted apps to be downloaded and installed)so I seriously need help my htc topaz got jacked while I was at work so I got ths mb300 frm pawnshop brand new just no usb cable(dnt worry got one off ebay b here n a few days) and I dnt no if I want to root it just to get wifi tether so please help me

That's an interesting question. I moved it to the Motorola Backflip forums for you where it'll be seen by owners of that device who may be able to help you.

That other forum, where you first posted this, is more oriented around updates in general for various phones, while this area is aimed right at the one you now have the question about.

Thanks now maybe someone can help me with this problem because with my htc pure I used xda wifi sharing as my internet at my house and that WAS MY internet at my house and now I can't download ans use the wireless tether for this android os because it ses its a security issue and won't let me install it so help please and thankyou

I have the Backflip also, and unfortunately for both of us, AT&T has disabled the ability to download any apps that do not come from the market unless you are rooted. There was some talk of that changing, but I don't know if AT&T ever pursued that change, or not. Maybe someone else here can shed some light on any updates to that situation???

As damewolf mentioned, it isn't possible to install the third party apps unless you are rooted. Once you are rooted, though, it is a very easy update to apply. Just go to this thread in ModMyMobile.com and it has the files and instructions that you'll need: [MOD] Install non-market apps .

As far as AT&T changing that, I haven't heard of that and I don't really see that happening, but if you are rooted then it is an easy fix.

Alrite well thanks I'm getting the samsung captivate for att(galaxy s) does anyone no if that can install third party apps thatl b my decision on wether to get thaat or not

AT&T so far has blocked every android phone it has from installing non market apps. I have a backflip and captivate and both are blocked. Option 1, root the phone and do the mod to allow sideloading apps (install from SD card). OR and big OR that does not require rooting is using your computer and the Android Sideload Mechine (very nice app) Check here for more details. The downside is you have to be plugged into a computer to use this, but you do not need to root.
