Okay, recently (about a month ago) I bought a Samsung Galaxy 551, unlocked, GSM. I wanted it because it had a QWERTY Keyboard, it was Samsung, and it had Android with TouchWiz 3.0 (which I like, don't judge ^.^).

But, I didn't realize how much the cons (No 3G, 667 MHz processor, 3.2 inch display, low resolution, 3.2 mpx camera, etc.) outweighed the Pros (QWERTY Board, Android, and TouchWiz 3.0).

It was about $350 dollars, and I paid for it my self (Being a 15 year old without a job.)

I bought the phone after watching all the YouTube videos there are on it, even the ones not even in English. I was so excited to get the phone.

Until, after I got it, I realized how not great it is. Programs crash, browsing speeds are slow since I don't have access to 3G because it's unlocked, there are no accesories for it like cases or anything, so it's all scratched up (when i've only dropped it once from about 3 ft holding it on tile, but the screen some how is getting scratched up more and more each day).

I was looking at the Samsung Captivate before I even found this phone, but I was determined to find one with a QWERTY keyboard because I knew there had to be one somewhere.

But now, i'm having second thoughts and i'm thinking about going for the Captivate sometime after Summer, or even near October or November. I know the Infuse is coming out for AT&T soon, but that phone's screen is just way to large :p

So, should I wait for my upgrade to come up during the summer so I can get a Captivate around October/November, or not upgrade at all and keep the phone (Samsung Galaxy 551) I have now? I mean is it worth the upgrade?

Thanks! :D

Craigslist is your friend good place to buy your next phone, also a good place to sell the galaxy...as long as you dont try to sell that junk for $350 lol. Oh and check out phonescoop.com quick and easy place to compare phone specs.

eep, craigslist... make SURE you check the phone out fully before you buy it, and that it has a clean ESN. Wouldn't be the worst idea to activate it on the spot, before the guy you buy it from leaves.

I dunno, I would go ebay or amazon, craigslist can get very, very shady about electronics. You buy a phone, get it home and realize it's completely broken, you're out of luck. Ebay may not be great, but at least if it shows up broken you can file a complaint.

I buy and sell alot of phones, a lot of times from craigslist...a little common sense goes a long way.
IE. Trying out the phone and making sure everything works...no different than buying a used car. Also Meet them at a store(for the appropriate carrier of the phone you are buying) as most cl sellers don't wanna invite you over.

Lol, well i'd rather buy from just AT&T since the Captivate is only $100 on upgrade now... Compared to the prices on Craigslist & Ebay lol.

Nah, buying a used car you're signing official documents and you're (almost always) meeting the guy at his place of residence. Car sucks, just go back to where he lives. I've bought plenty off craigslist, and I've NEVER met anyone at their home.

But yeah, use common sense, I'm not trying to say there's no way you should ever buy anything off craigslist... just be aware that there ARE a lot of people out there with bad phones that are happy to take your money.

Yeah average price is probably $200, but then again the phone will cost you that much anyway considering monthly insurance on the phone, and the fact that it likely won't last 2 years. Oh and the fact that the phone sucks and you won't WANT to be stuck with it for 2 years...trust me my vibrant is essentially the same phone(Galaxy S under different carriers), and the screen, camera and amount of storge space don't quite redeem this phone

Right. I couldnt imagine just handing someone my cash and taking thier word on the phone, but it happens. The car thing was just a non electronic comparison.

So... Should I wait for my AT&T upgrade, and get a Captivate around October or November, or just wait until next year?

O.k. I see.

If you had your eye on the Captivate then go for it. The specs look pretty good on both phones eventhough the Captivate is touchscreen. You would get the benefit of 3G and a 1Gig processor.

It all depends on what features you use most on your phone. It varies from person to person. Remember you have to live with that phone.

Since you're on GSM check out GSMArena.com and other sites to get the specs on any phone before you buy it. Be very careful buying pre-owned ones though. I wouldn't recommend that at all.
