Welcome to the forums!!

Unfortunately I can't help on the "best to buy" or which would suit your budget best (only own 1 device myself). I hope that someone else will be able to advise!

If you go to http://androidforums.com/and scroll down, each device has it's own sub-forum... you may get some responses as to the features of each phone, so you can compare them.

The best advice may be to actually go in to a shop and get a feel for each one, that way you will know which one you like best! :)

EDIT - most people would give you reasons why their device is best but, ultimately, the choice is yours!! :)

thanks for the reply...the think that is confusing me is this...
galaxy 3 has has a better screen and a cam with auto focus and a better batterry costs less..
the mini has a better ram and comes with stock froyo...but no autofocus and weak battery costs little more..
will the lack of autofocus and a smaller resolution limit me from using the device to full potential...?
or is a phone with larger ram is better..?

I wouldn't have thought that the resolution should be a problem... battery life is usually quite important though... I have a Desire HD and the battery life is, quite frankly, rubbish (unless you follow a few "rules"/tips to get as much out of it as possible)... I'd say - go for the best bang for your buck... weigh up the options and get the best all-rounder!! :)

Small_town_boy... I think a lot of users do not check in the introductions section of the website... you may get better answers by asking in the sub-forum for each device. The owners of each device could then let you know why they think their device is the best and then you would be able to make a decision based on their comments!

EDIT - it is worth noting that you said that Galaxy 3 comes with stock Froyo... Froyo has recently been replaced with Gingerbread
