Welcome to Android Forums, Sharon.

I'm not exactly sure I understand your question. There is no default file manager on Android devices although some manufacturers include one with their customizations. Let us know which device you are useing and the current version of Android installed on it and we could give you better direction.

Normally, to copy text you long-press (touch and hold for 2 seconds or longer) the area of text you'd like to copy and you get a pair of sliders that allow you to adjust the text selection. Then you tap again and it copies the text. To paste the copied text into an email, you open up a new email, long-press in the composition area and select paste.
