You'll see some responses to your question, some wanting more info and some offering different scenarios "depending" on a few things.
I'm wondering which "droid" you have, for example, and then what kind of update? There are dozens of Android devices, many of which are called a droid.
But, to be general about it, if it's any Android device and is stuck trying to download or install an OTA (Over The Air) update from the carrier, then the remedy might be as simple as removing the battery, putting it back in after a minute or so, powering the device back up and waiting for the update to arrive again.
However, we don't know what condition the device is in right now, downloading, installing, rebooting and in a "loop," etc.
Would you mind providing as much of that information as you know, for us? Then we can get going on specific help just for your situation. Also, telling us the make and model of the device (Droid X2, Incredible, etc) will allow us to move your question to the correct device sub-forum here at Android Forums, where users of that device in particular can offer help from experience.
