Here they go again...

regardless of apple throwing a lawsuit against samsung, i don't seeing this affecting Us as consumers anyway..... think about how many people already own the samsung galaxy s3, im sure it a big number. what are they going to do make us turn our phones in for another phone?? HAAAAAA. i own 3 apple ipods... and thats it. as for my tablet use its android tablet, and for my phone use i will continue with using android related phones. and my s3 isn't going anywhere.

Most i see apple being able to do with this lawsuit is just make samsung pay another big amount of money to them and tell samsung to cease and desist on copying what ever it is they claim samsung is copying.....

It may seem menial but it already has, the universal search is gone. Not that anyone had to do the update. I think some are worried about what other function they will try to take. ( I know we don't have to update :) )

My hope is that the developers will find a way to make universal search better without Apples patent, along with everything else they are claiming as theirs!~

This is me. I keep trying to like Mac OS but it just isn't intrinsically easy for me. I can never find anything and the menus in apps are frequently hidden.

iOS is better only because the entire OS is based on 3rd party apps. It's really just one giant app drawer begging you to go shopping in the iTunes store.

Mac OS is more similar than dissimilar underneath to Android. OS 10 is Unix based (BSD/NeXT) with a custom kernel (OS9 was actually written by Apple, but was an unequivocal disaster). iOS is based on Mac OS...

Windows is about the only consumer OS left not based on Unix.

the problem is that the patent is not about how the search works, but the basic idea it searches both the device and the Internet... how absurd.

the fact it only affects US devices just shows how ridiculous this patent is; Samsung does not fear repurcussions from the rest of the world.

So it's basically because Apple was the first to actually put the technology on a phone, so they get the rights, what a giant pile of BS!! They didn't even invent it???

Pretty much... I can't even begin to understand why the Patent and Trademark Office would even grant such a thing..

Apple really doesn't invent much at all. Way back when, Wozniak did actually come up with some things, but Steve Jobs was not an inventor. He was however an extraordinarly visionary with incredible marketing skills. He was a master at projecting "image" and creating hype. He was amazing at taking other people's ideas and/or products, combining them to fit his vision of how he wanted to accomplish something, then packaging it and marketing it so everyone ooh'd and awe'd and had to have it. He had many incredible skills, however he - nor Apple, have hardly ever come up with original technology itself.

For the most part, what Apple hasn't copied, they've acquired by licensing, or purchasing companies and their IPs.

For goodness sake surely the powers that be in the US will realise these law suits are damaging technological growth and development. In the long run that can only have a negative effect on the economy. I thought the US was all about free enterprise why is Apple being given so much rope?

give them enough and they may hang themselves....

That's an interesting thing right there. I mean if Samsung does indeed own alot of patents that deal with LTE, then I can't really see a court laughing at them. But what about HTC, Moto, and Nokia using LTE? I myself hope Apple gets a dose of they're own medicine.

+1, Time to fight fire with fire.

Either Google and it's handset makers will have to fight back, or they will be fighting off Apple forever. Apple has declared war and it seems Android is content sitting back waiting for the next bomb to drop.

Apple can't win overall market share with their devices alone, so they are trying to steal it via bans and lawsuits.

Sack up time has arrived. Counter punch should be on target by now.

I'm curious to know WHY Samsung hasn't sued anyone else regarding their use of LTE or did other manufacturers sign licensing agreements with Samsung in order to not be sued?

That or maybe because they think it will hurt them, I know before Apple sued I never would have thought twice about buying from them, I was even jealous of the Ipad my husbands co. bought him, now I won't even consider it. When the kid at Best Buy tried to show me Ipads when I was looking at Asus Tablets, I gave him an ear-full. His jaw was still on the floor when I left. (although I hope that when the iphone 5 comes out with lte, they nail em!)

According to various tech news sites, Samsung is threatening to sue Apple if they release an LTE iPhone 5. What are your thoughts on this?

I think patent exhaustion, the ITC and FTC will jump down Samsung's throat and ensure it goes nowhere.

When it comes to connectivity, Samsung will have a tough fight going after Apple for many different reasons.

If the door opens on connectivity patent wars it's bad for literally everyone because they are much harder to circumvent, unlike software patents. It would literally cripple LTE adoption across the globe.

Also, Apple has 5% of LTE patents so they are not exactly helpless, plus the arsenal of Rockstar Bidco.

Either way, if either firm opens this can of worms, expect the courts to invalidate patents or force FRAND to keep mobile development from falling apart.

I just visited the iPhone forums and some people there are trying to figure out if they can install Android OS on their iPhone... haha, pretty funny

Well, when you think about it, it's no different than Android users looking for that iOS experience. You know the ones..... they get bent out of shape and will post on any forum where people are willing to read and tell you all the things their iPhone did. :D
