Herman Cain for president?

He's got my attention. I'm on his mailing list. I was very impressed with him.

YouTube - ‪Herman Cain Needs to Read End the Fed by Ron Paul‬‏

"Herman Cain says the Federal Reserve is NOT unConstitutional! The Fed is unconstitutional because Congress didn't have the constitutional authority to hand over control of our money in the first place. Herman, can Congress pass any law they want? Are you saying the Obamacare mandate is Constitutional? Can Congress force everyone to wear Hawaiian shirts on Monday? Are there no limits to what laws Congress can pass? Have you read the Constitution?"

No thanks, just another big gov't republican.

I like Cain as a person and he is a decent enough politician, but he has no chance in a presidential election. It's a shame because he has some good ideas. We differ on several issues, as I am not a Republican, but they are side issues that aren't going to get changed by anyone. Best of luck to him, he's got to be better than Obama.

Here's a take on the Patriot Act by Mr Cain:

"I think that the PATRIOT Act is about 90 percent right on. I can’t delineate to you exactly what I would want to change, but here again I would rather error on the side of caution and protection, rather than worry about that ten percent that I might have a problem with. Perfect legislation doesn’t exist. But I’m happy with legislation that’s 90 percent right on especially if it’s going to protect the people."

And there's the rub. I'm tired of politicians trampling the Constitution all in the name of protecting us. He's no different than the rest of them. God help us.

Well there are plenty of zealots at both extremes. They keep us from reasonable compromise and our country is in deadlock.

Imo, Herman is a breath of fresh air. Also, let's keep to the issues and not get personal or mean spirited.

/coaching talk.

Whats wrong with the Huffington Post and I haven't seen that talking point used in an opinion or news piece there, altho I rarely read it unless linked?

Some people tend to look at media sources they don't agree with as biased. Of course the ones they do agree with aren't ...

My comment wasn't meant to be offensive. I was expressing the opinion that the site that blocked your IP blocks all non-US IPs. The site is conservative, and such an action would be considered xenophobic.

I watch liberal and conservative news and talk. They're both biased, but have truth in them and make good arguments. I listen, learn and form my own opinions.

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."

-- Hindu Prince Gautama Siddharta, the founder of Buddhism, 563-483 B.C.

Well I learn by observation and make my own judgements. That's how I roll.

when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it

isnt this what most people do anyhow?

the problem is your definition of reason or good and beneficial is totally different than the next guys

therefore this prosthelitization, although made with good intention, is gibberish

unless of course you think theres a standard belief system that everyone subscribes to

you pretty much nailed it in your previous posting.......... we like the sources we agree with and we hate the sources we disagree with...... the best you can do is consider all sources biased and take them all with a grain of salt.......... the truth is usually somewhere in the middle

I'm not sure about that. There seem to be a lot of people who are willing to let others do their thinking for them.

Here we disagree. I think there are some universal truths. I also think that most people are not fully conscious of them. Maybe writings that have survived for 2500 years as the basis of a humane philosophy are gibberish to you, but they are not to me.

unless of course you think theres a standard belief system that everyone subscribes to

Actually, I think belief systems are exceedingly dangerous and often destructive.

No, the truth is where you find it. It's not on the left or the right or somewhere in between - it's wherever it is. Hopefully your belief system will not prevent you from seeing and accepting it.

Let's get back on topic here. This is not a debate on how to arrive at your opinions but it is about Cain. This thread is hijacked, let's get back on, okay?
