Hero less laggy after upate? Ahem, I dont think so

So I used to think that my phone was less laggy too after the update. But I must say, my phone has now returned back to its laggy state, and might be even worse that before.

So I wanted to gather some information. How many of you think you're phone is less laggy after the update, and how many of you think that it was merely a placebo effect of some sort?

Because the list of fixes on the Sprint Community forums didn't say anything about lag fix either...
 
Definitely not a placebo effect. I have two Heroes and I upgraded one and compared it to the un-upgraded Hero. The upgraded Hero was significantly faster in numerous areas; the only area I found it to be slower was in booting.

YMMV, as I'm sure that it depends on what apps you have installed, how many, how much data you have, cache settings, etc. etc.

For your updated/faster Hero, can you briefly say what apps you have on there, and other things about that phone that we can use to compare it with ours?
 
It would take a while. I've got about 30 apps currently installed from the marketplace, plus several that I'm writing. I've probably installed close to 100 apps and uninstalled most of them.

According to Internal Memory Widget, I'm running at about 80MB used of 160MB.

Only major substitutions were Handcent and Dolphin (SMS and Browser), but I noticed that the stock Browser was significantly faster when you switch to it after the upgrade.

Maybe I haven't had enough time with the upgraded device, but it seems that I get less force-closes than before. I've been running Sports Tap all day and it hasn't quit once. Before the upgrade, it would quit frequently.

I'd do more research, but I've upgraded the second Hero and it is just as snappy as the first one.
 
Wow, I've got way less than you on the Hero, and mine's not that snappy :(
I am running at 88 instead of 80 like yours
 
I have about 70 mb free with 20+ apps. But there are definite improvements such as camera speed and the browser page loading. That said, the typing/dictionary thing... typing/keyboard I think has some issues but not bad enough on my unit to cause any angst! But overall it is running quite well post update.

after the update the hero i use is the same overall. as a stat check, i dont have it rooted and i only have 2 apps from the market store, pandora and google talk. i have 98 MB free i believe. i use GPS all the time and have the nfl widget running. i also keep wifi and BT on all the time...

since the phone i use is really stock before the MR and now after the MR, i can give my opinion on what i have seen.

the screen rotation is a little faster as well as the camera is better as some mentioned. the keyboard predictive typing mode is still the same.. has a little lag in it, which is due to the phone thinking which word it thinks one is trying to type. if you turn that off it should decrease some lag but heck i need it when typing so thats no option for me.. :rolleyes:

overall i think this MR fixed a lot of stuff under the hood we dont really see daily besides the little things that was posted as to what it fixed. but the phone is a great device...
 
After the update mine is fast, but i have it rooted with a Rom called FRESH. All the apps from sprint are gone and some other ones aswell. I would consider rooting and flashing a rom if your having lag problems. Pow.
 
I definitely feel as though my phone is faster post update. It doesn't bog down nearly as much and seems to manage application memory much better. I often run several apps at a time. Before the update, I'd often get to the point that I'd need to use Taskiller to close out some apps. Now, that hasn't happened more than once.

Also, like other said, the camera is way faster. Like night and day in my experience.
 
I too am running the Fresh .4 Rom with sprints update. (Porn music plays in the background). I'm so loving my phone.
After running Palm Treo's and several windows mobile phones I have to say the Hero is faster and has way more features. I have over 40 apps from the market installed with 106 megs used of the 159. Still fast for me. I don't use many bulky widgets, especially the "People" widget.
 
mine seems to be faster than it was. The only lag i ever experience is with the phone dialer. it does piss me off sometimes. anything else, no lag. I'm coming from a samsung instinct, so serious lag is what i'm used to. So this may be a moot point...cause this phone is way faster than my old instinct. I'll deal with it...this is the way i look at it...i have to deal with this phone for one year, and if i can deal with an instinct for a year...i think i can be happy with the hero for a YEAR. I'm sure there will be something better next year. To me, this phone is not the end all for me...just a stepping stone!
 
The worst lag I experience is with opening the message app, typing a message, and sending it. It didn't improve, for me, after the update. I did a factory reset and it improved somewhat, but now that I've added a bunch of apps (99MB free) it is slowing down again.

The most aggravating thing is when it lags just as I hit the space bar. It ends up depressing twice and half.of my texts.look something.like.this.

I have noticed the same thing. keyboard lag after the update is really bad. love the updated camera though and no more forcecloses.
