Hero / Red Exclamation Mark / S-ON

I rooted my wife's Sprint Hero with Unrevoked from unrevoked
it worked fine for a while. i told my wife not to do any updates, but of course she did. Now its no longer rooted, and i cant get into recovery mode without getting the red exclamation mark. I tried to re-install unrevoked to root it again, but it didn't take.

Is there any other options out there on rooting her phone without installing the original RUU and going back to a factory reset?

Try Z4Root .
You will have to do a search for it on XDA.
No longer in the Market.
