i made the transition from iphone to this galaxy note about 4 hours ago. I've had an iphone since the the first gen. and I've been jailbreaking ever since. I have 30 days to love this thing or i can take it back to att and charge my iphone 4 back up. Besides the fact that i can finally get the 4g let network, what else is a good reason to keep this phone? Can these useless apps be removed? Can these things be.jailbroken? (can i say jailbreak?)

Its "rooting" not jailbreak. Now, depends on what you want to do with your iPhone before when you jailbreak as to whether you need to root your Galaxy. Many of the features a jailbroken iPhone has is already available on an Android withou root. I have never really even felt the need to root my phone.

For starters, you can probably start by modifying the UI of the phone to suit your liking better. For example, don't like the iOS-like side to side page scrolling in the app drawer? Change it to a vertical icon set like on Nokia. (You do this by getting customizeable launchers).

Don't like how your homescreen looks? Try some of these: http://androidforums.com/android-themes/4425-post-your-android-desktop-145.html

You can also try theme-ing your lockscreen to fit the homescreen setup: http://androidforums.com/android-th...ckscreen-screenshots-widgetlocker-etc-16.html

Yes the "useless" apps can be removed, if you want to, and if you are rooted. Although mostly its better to just leave them alone, since you won't be getting space troubles since you are using a Note. Just pop a 32GB SD card in it if you need more space. iPhone apps are also usually larger in file size than Android apps for several technical reasons easily lumped together as iOS limitations. So you'll be able to fit in more apps into your phone's memory than onto an iPhone of the same memory size.

Hi Hank, and welcome to AF.

The hallmark of android is flexibility - most things are doable if you are willing to give it a try - and if you jailbreak your iPhone, where Apple try to block the holes more actively than any Android manufacturer does, I'm guessing that you are :).

The best place to get advice on your specific device is in the device forum, in your case Samsung Galaxy Note - Android Forums. Out of the box an android has some of the features of a jailbroken iPhone, but if you want to remove system applications (including bloat that comes with it) you will want to root it (i.e. gain superuser/administrator access). The device forum has a subforum "all things root" where such things are discussed. Tricks for rooting are usually specific to a device, or a group of devices, so that's the best place to ask. Do read the sticky post in that forum before asking, as it should answer common questions. The Note is quite new, but there seem to be a few threads on rooting it there already, and the main Galaxy Note forum looks quite active to me (I have an HTC Desire, so don't visit that one normally, but have just had a quick peek through).

Questions about what applications are available (with root or without), and general android tips and tricks, will be covered in the general Android Discussion forums as well as the device forum.

This is a friendly and helpful forum, and I hope you find it that way. If you do have any problems, just drop me (or any other guide or mod) a message - we're here to help.

Edit: Indeed while I was typing that some of our other forum members were proving that point for me!

Galaxy Note is an awesome device. It isn't a phone, it isn't a tablet, but the best of both worlds. And it's running Android -> Note wins. Use it for a few weeks and you'll never want to see the iPhone again.
You can do most of the stuff you had to jailbreak the iOS for without rooting the android. And if you do root, a whole new world opens to you.
But then, the Note isn't for everyone. There _are_ people who would still prefer a lesser phone, like an iPhone. People who just want to use the things as they are, people who go for the Apple products no matter what the others have to offer.
So finally, the decision is yours. But if you really weigh the pros and cons, the android always wins.

its funny. It appears that i jarilbroke my phone to get it running like an android. I mean, every single tweak, theme, app I downloaded, came stock on this device. I guess i should have been an android all along....I heard there was a place i could go to convert my itunes to my new device? So far, its day 2 and i kinda like it.

You can try Google Music. All of my music is available to me anywhere without it being downloaded to my device.
