Help HeyTell and non activated phone?

My LG Optimus V phone is not activated nor is my wife's phone.
Can we use HeyTell on the phones to talk with each other prior to activation which will not be until end of February. Thanks!
 
If that is a type of voip then yes you can also use Skype or Google voice with grooveip. Basically anything that uses WiFi.
