Hi Droids! :P

SanFran

Newbie
Hello,

I don't usually partake of the 'introduce yourself' thing, but a couple of glasses of whisky has encouraged me to be more sociable! :D

I've fancied a 'Droid' phone for a while now, and decided on a 'San Fran'. Spent a few weeks sniping on ebay before I got one 'on my terms' (i.e. cheap! lol). I got a second hand OLED one which has Froyo 2.2 on it (FLB-Froyo r10). I think I read somewhere that that (FLB) wasn't so great, but.. WOW. I love it! - The phone, the 'OS' (ROM?). Everything. Even the camera looks good to me! - You gotta understand.. this is someone who's used 'bricks' as phones till very recently.. I thought the two little Samsungs that OH 'handed me down' over the last couple of years were pretty cool (both 'sliders': little black C300 or something, and a silver, uhm... J700 I think..), so the Blade is.. gorgeous! (I might love it more than OH.. Shh!) Haha!!

Added a good few apps., but it seems to be coping quite well. One thing I don't like is the feeling of 'nakedness'. Is there no privacy anymore? Some apps. want way too many permissions! Lookout hasn't complained yet though, and I'm keeping an eye on them so we'll see...

Anyway, I've been lurking here a little while, but thought I'd join and say hi.

:)

Welcome to Android Forums!

I'm a single malt guy, but I have been known to go "slumming" with JW black every now and then ;)

I understand your concern about permissions. Some of those notices are a bit daunting especially when a simply informational app says it can access personal information and do things that can cost you money. I hate things that can do stuff to cost me money, I have children for that.

Most times the permissions are really so it can save data for you, remember a password or connect through your data connection. If there is anything that really concerns you, I've always found it best to contact the developer directly with my concerns and they can usually explain why they need those permissions. At that point I can either use or not use the app.

Good luck with the "new" phone.
