Hi Everyone!

Lurker
Having fun with my new and first android phone. I have a Metropcs Ascend which I have rooted and removed some bloatware and I'm wondering if this will somehow effect the Froyo update when and if it becomes available. I'm beginning to wonder if it is actually going to happen. I have a bunch of questions which I'm hoping I can get some answers to. Like, will the Froyo update be over the phone, automatically, or will it be a manual installation? Also, is there some trick to removing the sd card? I open the sd card cover but I can't see how to get the card out. And lastly, at least for the moment and actually next-to-lastly, if there is not going to be an update despite all the rumors, is there a custom, unofficial 2.2 version in the works somewhere? And now, lastly, how can I change the bootup sound on my phone? I really detest the annoying Metropcs jingle that you hear every time you boot up. Ok, I guess that's it. Thanks in advance and here's hoping for Froyo Soon!

Welcome to the Android Forums!

Theoretically removing bloatware from a phone can impact it's ability to load new OTA updates. Some vendors built checks into their updates to look for the presence of certain files before installation.

As for the jingle, to change it will require changing the boot animation. This is possible with root access to the phone.
