Hi everyone! I'm brand new here... I've only had my T-Mobile Android for about 6 months, and my mother just got one last month. She bought one to use while visiting the States, and took it back to England with her. She's trying to figure out how she can keep using it via wi-fi only, and I've been trying to help her, but both of us are rather limited in what we know about our devices, and what apps are out there. That's why I'm seeking out this forum.. Hopefully I'll be able to learn something! I'm looking forward to reading the various posts.. I'll bet there's soo many things we can do with our phones that we don't even know about!

Welcome chris to AF! :ciao:
To make it a wifi only turn on airplane mode then turn wifi on that's what I do with my non activated phones
Mind you some devices won't let you do this for whatever reason
Hope this helps and enjoy the site :)

Welcome to the site chrismazz! Glad to have you here :)

StarScream definitely has you pointed in the right direction, there is no other way to disable all incoming radios to your phone and keep wifi enabled other than airplane mode.

This will basically turn the phone into a tablet :)

You can use apps like Google Voice or GoSMS and use there messaging service to send/receive messages over Wifi too!

Hope this helps :)

airplane mode, huh? I've seen that option on my phone but never used it..

So, I've put my phone on airplane mode and turned on wifi. Downloaded google voice with no problem. When I went in to set it up, it reached a step where it needed to verify my phone number, and wouldn't go any further because verification failed. I'm guessing that's because my phone is in airplane mode.. For me, I can just switch it back, but what about my mom's phone in England. It doesn't have active phone service right now.. Is there a way around this step?
