Hello I'm new to android, having just purchased a samsung galaxy s phone.
I have got myself into a bit of a pickle. I,ve turned on Gmail but can't work out how to turn it off so I don't keep getting notifications when new mail arrives in my Gmail a/c. I'm ok with this on my desk top but am worried about my download limit on the phone. Help please!

Welcome to the forums!

The gmail app only keeps the newest 25 emails, so you needn't worry about about space and email is relatively small so unless you get a tremendous amount (thousands a day?), it shouldn't impact data use much either. While in the gmail app, press menu and un check notifications if they annoy you. If you want to stop the email download entirely, turn off sync. While on the home screen, menu > settings > accounts and sync. select your Google account and un check sync gmail
