Like protection against downloading malicious applications? In my opinion no.
You'd have to give those apps special permission just to run on your device and reading the comments, checking it's rating, and looking at it's permissions can come along way. Here's a link about that sort of thing. Android permissions explained, security tips, and avoiding malware But if you want an AV then you could try avast in the Google Play store.
