Hi everyone
This forum is a great resource, and I'm happy to join it.
Here is a bit about me:
I'm 56 years old, have been closely involved with technology since I was about 14. That is if any of you are old enough to remember when top-notch stereo equipment was ultra high tech. I love music, hence the early background in electronics. Repairing and restoring McIntosh Labs solid state amplifiers made between 1971 and 1978 is kind of a hobby. It also got me a GREAT stereo system for a good price
.
I learned to program computers, yes program, starting on an IBM 370 mainframe (no fun at all), then a Digital equipment PDP-11/40 running RSTS/E. Built my own first computer in December of 1975, a Southwest Tech Products SWTPC 6800. "Built" with a soldering iron, several bags of parts, a few circuit boards, and a cage type chassis to put it all in. The terminal for it was a TV, modified so that I could hook up the video output of the computer's video card to the TV, by disconnecting the RF part of the TV.
I have a daughter, am married, love Great Danes and all dogs in general.
Having lived through all the changes that "micro computers" have brought us, and how they proliferated, I think I can see some really wild changes in the future, given how powerful our Android phones are already.
And, finally, I am doing this introduction because the forum software thinks I am trying to post a link in another thread. I am not. But to placate it, I thought I would introduce my self.
Nice to meet you all, and I read and think about all of your ideas and opinions.
Scott
