And... so we get some good radio info on the N5 now...

What I am wondering is since we can access the various radio parameters... how hard it would be to "trick" an N5 into working on an obtuse carrier like Verizon.

About as easy as watching TV on an FM radio - you can't "trick" a GSM phone to "speak" CDMA.

It has CDMA radios on board.

Verizon uses band 4 in some markets (very limited) so you can conceivably activate LTE on Verizon. However, they can very easily sniff it out and disable your phone from accessing their network and terminate your contract.
