Hidden virus!

So after downloading an app on my Samsung Europa I was notified that I was running low on space. I opened the manage apps window and had access to a lot more apps than usual. Browsing them I found one named 'Robert Parker' which has access to basically everything and does not have an uninstall option. The only option it has is force stop which doesn't work. It has a red tombstone for an icon.

I found that other people have the same problem too but cannot find an answer. I am using avgfree which doesn't detect it either.

help would be appreciated, thanks!

Try and download "Lookout" do a scan and see if it picks it up. If it does, see if it gives you an option to uninstall. If not, a factory reset should get ride of it. Good luck. Just curious, where did you download the app from and what was the name of the app? thanks

Thanks Ill try that now. Its called 'Robert Parker' and its not visible on my menus just hidden in the manage apps folder. I have no idea how it got there but I just noticed that the box for installing non market apps was unticked

You could google how your phone goes in "Save Mode" while booting.

In Android "Save Mode" there will not be started any background apps (the downloaded kind) and then you should able to uninstall this misteriously app.

When not, then you have to do a factory reset.

EDIT: This seems to be the way to get a Samsung phone in Save Mode ...

So I learnt: HTC phones have an other way to start in Save Mode :)

Thanks for the replies but unfortunately none of them worked. I'm going to format my phone, but first, how do I save my photos to my sd card? I am travelling at the moment so don't have access to a computer and can't afford to lose my photos!

Thanks

Use a file managing app. From within that app, you can move all your photo's, etc. to the SD card. I suggest to "copy" the pictures, instead of "move". Just in case there is a problem moving the photo's from one place to another. I use "ES File Explorer".

As an ex, and maybe, future iPhone user - this scares the hell out of me. (I'm test driving the Galaxy Skyrocket since the iPhone 4S underwhelms me.) I followed the link the OP put up, and after two months there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer yet.

This robert parker app is hidden. If you go into manage apps, then left click for menu, select filter then select show all
This is one of the apps that comes up, and if you click on it and scroll down there are a bunch of security warnings!!
I reset to factory settings and it's still there. There is a button to "force close" but it won't react to touch or enter key.

I think this may be why my internet services are not working.
p.s. I downloaded Lookout security program and scanned the phone twice and it didn't detect any bugs.

Help!

Did you try to boot your phone in "save mode"?
In this mode you should able to uninstall the app in 'Manage applications'.

That is the icon on the virus except the virus is in red and gold.

I have tried everything now. Factory reset, safe mode delete, anti virus and nothing has worked. Searching for it by opening manage apps to viewing all has worked to view it though, has anyone else found it?

I have message Samsung about the issue and will paste response asap. Will email avg know.

Im worried his thing has accessto my bank, Facebook, email, gps, internet and Bluetooth options as it claims to have or hopefully its a hoax.

Help!!

Here's what you need to understand about the Android operating system. If the app is part of the OS or is installed by the phone manufacturer or carrier, it can't be deleted unless you root your phone. That's just the way it is.

If you root and uninstall an app like that, be aware that it may affect other things as well. Your best solution is probably to install Titanium Backup after you root and "freeze" any apps you don't want. That leaves them on the phone, but prevents them from starting and running.

I found some info about this Robert Parker app:
At Samsung phones one can download this app from Samsung Store.

Then, it seems, this app has the same state as a stock app: It can't removed off an unrooted phone.

Can someone go along with this info?

Call your carrier. And make sure they aren't charging you five buck a month for it. Sounds like the moobile version of "cramming."

I found this on my phone last year and tried to find info online about it. I contacted the company that have the same name and logo as the app and they didn't know anything about it. they told me they don't have an app.

Anyway you can't run this app, it doesn't appear on your program list, you can't run it or install it or uninstall it... and worryingly it can access everything on your phone.

Don't use your credit card while browing on your phone, or order anything from amazon or other online place where you have cc details saved. Don't use ebay or amazon apps that automatically log you on - as if this app is nasty it could work out expensive.
