The notification pane/blind/panel/pull-down-thing-that's-virtually-impossible-to-google has an area for ongoing notifications. These are apps that are running in the background. I understand why they are producing ongoing notifications. I want these apps running in the background just as they are, so altering the app settings or uninstalling the apps is not an option. I just don't want anyone to be able to see that these apps are running and open them. I want to hide all ongoing notifications.
As I see it, I have a few options:
1. I can delete my notification bar. I did this once by accident, and I remember how it was done, so I can do it intentionally if I want. It's a bit extreme though, and I like the way I have it set up, with the flashlight toggle and all. Plus it lets me know if I have texts. I could work around all that, putting toggle widgets and text notification widgets on the desktop -- but I'd rather not have to break something and then install six widgets to compensate.
2. I can install an app that "replaces" the notification pane. The only app I've been able to find that does this is Super Status Bar. Unfortunately SSB also has ongoing notifications, even in the premium version, and it's no longer being developed, so if I want to use it, I'll have to hack it by hand. Plus it makes my notification bar all ugly and removes features I like. So it's not an ideal solution.
3. It seems like there should be some simple fix to just remove the ongoing notifications. I've rooted my phone. I can install ROMs. I've tweaked things by editing system files before. Is it possible to hide ongoing notifications any other way?
