Root Hiding the statusbar

Is there a script or something that I can run to give my screen some more space to display things like Facebook?
I want to hide the statusbar, then pull down from the top to open it up again.

Both Holo and Go Launchers do. I hide mine on the desktop and keep it visible on the lock screen. I like the clean look of the desktop, but still have the info I need on the lock screen.
