The Galaxy S has memory in the phone for SYSTEM use only. Any user data will be stored on the microSD card. If you have one in the phone, I suggest you remove it and try reseating it. If that fails, use an adapter to look at it with a PC. It may be a damaged/faulty card. I've had one fail before: it's important to back up your user data like pics/videos to a PC on a regular basis.
Let us know if reseating the card worked... if you have a spare microSD card, try putting that in and see if the phone reads it. If it does, you may be looking at a damaged card
