Help Hisense Sero 7 Pro - stuck booting

d_wright

Lurker
Hi.

Apologies if this has already been asked - I've gone through the forums and I can't find an answer so if it has can someone send me the link please?

What's happened is that my trusty Sero 7 pro has decided not to boot - stuck at the Hisense smArt screen like so many others seem to report. I've cleared the cache and done a factory reset through the recovery mode, but that's done nothing. What I want to try - before consigning it to the great recycling bin in the sky - is to root it and try putting on a new ROM, see if that springs it back into life (it's currently got stock ROM).

But - I've never done anything like that before - and I can't work out where to start! I think I need to root it - but as it's won't boot and I can only get it into fastboot or recovery mode I can't work out how to root it from there. Someone suggested using a rooting utility (called "Kingo" or something similar) but that failed, and instructions I've tried from various websites all fail too.

So - how do you root a tablet when you can only get into fastboot or recovery mode? Is it possible?

I've downloaded a couple of ROMs and have tried installing anyway - but they just fall over which I'm assuming is because the tablet isn't rooted (but the error message just says "error" - no explanation!).

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers.

Check the XDA forums for dolorespark (developer) who provides quite good instructions and help.

Here's one thread for a more recent ROM/rooting:

I use an older version discussed here :

Good luck.
