In the launcher(Nova) I use I simply drag an icon on top of another icon and it creates the folder automatically. Have you tried that?

I don't see any way to drag to the home screen. I see a way to copy a link, but don't see how to paste that link on the home screen.

Oh I thought you wanted to make folders like this...

It seems you're trying to create a different type folder.

I want to put a folder on the home screen that contains shortcuts to my frequently used documents.

Answer:

1. Touch and hold empty spot on screen
2. Select “Widgets”
3. Select “Drive”
4. Select desired folder
5. Customize icon as desired

On mine is drag two apps together and there will be an instant folder.
