Hi,
(long one so bare with me!)...

Unfortunately I'm not very clued up with computers, roms/rooting etc, but my s3 i9300 is starting to lag/become glitchy, especially whilst browsing, (I've done a hard reset, cleared cache etc).
Someone I know mentioned rooting, so after a little research have come to the conclusion it could improve my phone.

I could never do it myself, but I've found someone online that offers the service to rooting devices. (only around the corner, so I'll be dropping off/picking up my phone).

He's recommend installing a rom called 'cyanogenmod 12 Lollipop'.

My worry is that it seems it's a relatively new rom, so not sure how many issues it will have with it?

My needs are that I'd like a permanent rom that is as stable as possible, so I don't need to return the phone to him and pay for another rom to be installed.
I just want my phone to run SMOOTHER, QUICKER, and maybe give slightly BETTER BATTERY LIFE (if possible), WITHOUT any bugs.

I'm quite happy with how it functions (touchwiz), but wouldn't be a problem to change if it helps. I'm really not into all the 'customising' thing, I normally find something I like and stick with it.

Any recommendations? Or am I best just living with how it is?

Thanks in advanced.

I recommend rooting yourself. Its easier than you think. As far as trouble free Roms, doesn't exist. If your phone is rooted with a custom ROM, you are going to need to learn some things to maintain it yourself. And the tool for rooting a Samsung is Odin. Its a program you put on your computer. Its easy to use. Point and click easy. There are threads about it here in the forum.
Also here is a thread with some info.

If you do pay someone to root it for your, it's even easier once at that stage to put any rom on there.
One you're rooted with a custom recovery, you can do about anything very easily.

You don't have to go anywhere, trust me, you can do it yourself the others above are quite correct. The cyanogenmod 12 Lollipop will make it lean, smooth, and quick. I would imagine it will be also be buggy and may not be good for a stable phone. (@funkylogik would know I think he uses it).

If you do pay someone to root it (I don't charge anyone who asks me, I show them how, with them at my side explaining all the way. It is about getting the best from your device and spreading the knowledge - not money)

Agree with the rest mate but if you do pay the dude to flash it for you, I'd recommend a kitkat rom (for now).
As Dynomot says, ive tested a 5.0 (lollypop) rom and it was very buggy and basic.
This is why you should learn what you're doing because no custom rom is fully stable and are being improved /updated all the time so say your phone starts bootlooping out the blue, what, you gonna pay this guy to fix it for you? Or say when the 5.0 roms become good, you gonna pay him again to flash it for you?
I could never advise someone to run a modded phone as their daily device unless they know how to fix stuff when it goes wrong

PS, if you do pay the dude, tell him you want a "custom recovery and stock Nandroid backup" , then if things go wrong you can come on here and we can tell you how to make the phone exactly back to how it was before

I will sort it with you, but later, something called "work" gets in the way of serious stuff. :)

Thanks Funky...I forgot to mention the Nandroid (to me, it's implied, but not to a newcomer).

Once you're rooted, have a custom recovery, and a Nandroid...changing ROMs is like 2-3 clicks here and there and if you mess up, you restore your Nandroid (which is a fancy terms for backup) and you're back where you started.

Getting those things setup takes a little know-how, but once you're at that stage, it's very easy to self-manage your phone and try any ROM you want. That being said, there are some things that may cause issues if you hop from one ROM to another without knowing what you're doing. Moving from a Touchwiz based ROM to a Cyanogen ROM could require extra steps...and depending on your carrier, there could be other things to consider...but for the most part, getting rooted with a custom recovery and backup...means you can take control of your phone and shouldn't ever have to pay anyone to make tweaks for you.

The Guides and Moderators can advise you further in these regards.
