Help home button won't stop flashing

my phone is unactivated, and not rooted. I've only been playing with it for about a week now. Today I noticed that when I turn the phone on, the home button is lighting up all different colors non-stop. I went to settings and turned off all the different events that are supposed to trigger some sort of flashing, but it kept flashing. The only way I can make it stop is to go to settings/display, and turn off "home button LED".
is there anyway I can find out what is prompting it to flash?

It happens to me sometimes after snoozing or dismissing an alarm. The only thing I found that can help that situation is to reboot the phone.

that's exactly when it happened, I was fumbling around with the alarm this morning, and noticed the flashing, and figured I had some update or facebook message or something. And then later I checked the phone and realized it's just flashing for no reason.
Question, how do I reboot the phone? You mean press the power button? or is there a combination of buttons I have to hold?
