Help Home screen edit problem

Hello. Please bare with me, I don't really know what I'm talking about and might name something wrong!

Ok, I have the Samsung galaxy s2 in white on .tesco. Network in the UK.

I am trying to remove an app shortcut from my home screen.
I long hold on the app icon, and then it's .supposed to highlight and give option to move or remove, but, when I long hold, all I get is 'screen locked' message in the notifications bar.

I'm getting the same thing when I long hold a blank part of the home screen as if I wanted to add an app to it.

Does anyone know what I've done? How I can fix this?

Thank you!

Have you installed any launcher software ? Screen lock is usually an option if you are using another launcher such as go launcher or adw etc. It is simply an option to lock your screen setup. Which firmware are you on?
Pressing your menu key might show you an option to unlock. Don't recall any option to lock screen on stock launcher but have not used stock firmware for quite some time.

I'm using go launcher at the moment but from memory I think if you press menu, you get an option to add, click this and you should get options for widgets folders etc.
