Help Honeycomb/3.2 update

sgrim

Lurker
Greetings,

I just received a notice that Honeycomb/3.2 was available for update. Did anyone else get the notice?

I'm at work and I will update it when I get home. (Keeping my fingers crossed for a successful update.)

I'm on an unlocked 3G Galaxy Tab 10.1 that I bought through Amazon.com. I don't have a SIM card yet, so I'm just using it on WiFi.

Anyone have any idea how the non-carrier locked 3G units will get updated?

I'm not to sure about the 3G version. This is relating to the update. How do you guys update through kies if you have? Or has the wi-fi route been smooth and worked this time?

Mine got stuck at 47% while installing. I powered it off and back on and it completed. I'd like to know if there's anything significant new.

Mine hung at 47% FOR-EV-ER. But it installed just fine. It moves really slow from that point forward.

I'm not sure what changes though. I do know there are no issues w wi-fi.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I updated my Tab a couple days ago. It seemed to hang at 38% for about 15 minutes, but I resisted the urge to reset, and it finally completed.

It seems to be more stable and a little more responsive. I have not tried it with Kies yet, but I will do that this weekend.

installed update last night with no problem then started to notice pull up menu at bottom of screen would not work when rotated vertically one way this is very irritating since i now have to pay attention to screen oreintation. PLEASE HELP!

Hi there. I am having this problem too! When i have the tab in vertical position, screen is nice. When i have it in horizontal position, i have a screwed screen. Screen has a lot of weird lines in it and the keyboard is not correctly positioned on the screen. I am having this issue since the 3.2 fw update.:(

I have the 3G version on Rogers and no issues with orientation, screen layout, etc. I have noticed auto rotation is a bit slower now though, but I rarely use rotation, so it's no big deal.

Something I did notice that is a bit improvement for me, is the web browser now REMEMBERS the UA string setting, even from a power cycle. I can set the string to "Desktop" so pages load properly without having to look at the ugly mobile versions. Certain pages, like Google, give different search results when in mobile view too. And since I have a 6gig data plan for lots of data usage, using Desktop mode is much better for me.

For those interested, you can set your preferred mode in the browser by opening the browser and in the address bar enter "about:debug" without the quotes. Then tap on the settings icon in the upper right corner, select Settings. In the new window, select on the left Debug, tap on UAString, tap on your preferred string choice, OK, then Back out to the browser window. Then to save it, just enter "about:debug" again to remove the extra debugging options and the setting should stick.

Now enjoy better web browsing on your Tab!
:D

SGT 10.1 4G (TELUS). Kies worked when I bought it in November both WIFI and USB. Now won't connect either way. In WIFI the confirmation to connect on PC shows up and after I click "Yes" the SGT says it is ready to Sync but the Kies on the PC just continues to spin. In USB it just spins and then says failed to connect. The PC shows the SGT in device manager and I can open the storage and transfer files. Tried two different PC's both XP machines which are updated to the latest releases. I have turned off debugging on the SGT and upgraded Kies to the latest release. SGT OS is 3.1 (About) and I would like to upgrade to 3.2. The Samsung support has been less then helpful. I would appreciate any suggestions. My wife bought an Ipad2 and it works flawlessly with Itunes. Hope I didn't make an expensive mistake.

I can't help with the KIES issues since I refuse to install software which adds several steps to do what I can do manually in one step. I just drag and drop files (songs, videos, images) to/from my PC without any additional software - just plug in the Tab and Windows 7 recognizes it as a media device.

Also, you don't need KIES to update the firmware. Just use the update feature on the Tab in the Settings menu with your Samsung account, and it will download and install the new firmware using WiFi. No biggie.

I will say it again though...if you update the firmware, it's a good idea to do a factory reset before AND after the update. That gives you a clean canvas to work from and the Tab will run smoother with less issues. It's a small hassle to reset as you lose you settings and files on the Tab, but it's not that hard to setup again (and you don't have to do it again for a long time).

YMMV.

Interesting comment about doing a factory reset before and after a firmware upgrade.
Is this something you think is a good idea on any Android device, or do you have particular reasons to do it on the SGT 10.1?

I do this with any/all of my Android devices, not just the SGT. I believe it helps to prevent glitches and issues as there are no bits of data left over from previous versions. I also do something similar whenever I need to upgrade Windows on my PC's - a clean install often runs faster and with less issues.

YMMV.

My 4G Tab told me today there is an update. A few clicks and a reboot, and it's done. Very simple. Everything is working fine except Forte. It is not syncing with my Google Calendar. I might need to reset the account. Anyway, I am happy with the update.
