Help Hooking up an external hard drive to HD dock? Please help!

I have not had much luck googling this info... What I did find is something to the effect of modifying the data cord.

Would this idea work?

I want to get a powered usb hub.

I would get a double male ended usb cord and run that from the pc output to the droid bionic HD dock and plug the Seagate 1tb drive into the usb hub.

Would that work?

I tried plugging the external hard drive into the HD dock directly and the Bionic appears to recognize it! But I can't open it.... From my understanding the HD dock doesn't supply enough power.

So that is the only way I can think of doing it.

Do you think it's worth a shot?

That might be a factor as well, although I'm not sure if the hub will or will not work with it. However, the dock should have (minimally) a battery, and if it is plugged into the wall it should be able to supply line voltage on the USB. So, you may find that the powered hub is not needed.

I have a 4 port CyberPower powered USB 2.0 hub that I got at Wal-Mart for $20 (IIRC) that works great. Might check out Wally world instead of BB

Alright! It worked!

I bought a 20 dollar Belkin 4 port usb that is powered. The end that goes to the pc, I hooked up to the HD dock while in webtop mode through my television and the bionic was able to play the files from my 1tb hardrive, which is western digital, not a seagate. :)

When I get around to it, possibly today, I will buy a cord that is suited to hook up directly to the phone and see if I can bypass the docking station all together. :D

I wonder if a ultra portable usb dvd player/burner will work?! lol

Alright, the External hard drive only works when the Bionic is physically docked to the television (Webtop mode).

If I just place the Bionic into the HD docking station without using the webtop feature and dismissing the "Picker", I cannot get the hard drive to mount. I tried the app to no avail... Is there a hack I have to do? I am rooted.

I tried to mount is through the app and got an error of no such directory. I did notice in the setting for the that one can add mount points. Is there a mount point I need to create within the app?

Not too sure, I only just discovered the app myself, and I haven't found a real good source for explanations / instructions, so....

I'll keep looking, and if you find something before I do, please post it here :D

I'm still looking with no luck. :(

I am happy I got it to work at least with the webtop. :)
