Horrible timing...

So today I had a package coming and I was impatiently waiting for it in my house. My uncle calls me telling me he needs help with something and will pick me up at 12. So right then I was thinking "Watch FedEx deliver it that little 30 min that I'm not at home."

He then calls again and says that he'll pick me up at 12:30. So then I thought "Hopefully FedEx will deliver it during that extra 30 min." Didn't happen...

After I was done helping my uncle, we drove back and on the way I see the FedEx truck leaving my block :bawling:. So if my uncle originally picked me up at 12, I would have plenty of time to get back and sign for my package.

The deliveryman didn't even leave a doortag so now I have to stay in my house the whole day, I am definitely not answering any phone calls tomorrow.

Funny how life works -____-

sometimes the delivery schedule is not the most efficient process there is, from my observation (though I usually deal with UPS) I will see UPS across the street at one gas station dropping something off then it will drive off, 5 minutes later stopping at the gas station I live next to and again drive off and finally 10 minutes after that stopping at my house.

I'm not sure if it was UPS or Fedex, or Both? but I know there is at least one of them, that if you need to sign for the package and you know you are going to be gone you can print out a door tag that you can sign and leave on your door and they will accept that as the signature (if you have a "safe" area to place your package). I recall reading about this but never have had to try it. I have a porch that all of them just leave my packages in I haven't had to sign for anything yet.

The opposite happened to me. I waited all day for the delivery. At 4PM i decided they probably wernt delivering it that day. I figured its still at the mail office. They closed at 5PM, so i rushed out to my car to go to the mail office to get my package (called first but no answer, i was desperate to have my package that day). So as soon as i get in my car to leave, the UPS man pulls in my drive way =D

Oh i totally hate when that happens!
You are lucky the fedex guy came back.
i have my local fedex guy cell phone number on my phone so I can hound him down... hehe.

As a FedEx courier I can tell you that you're partially correct. If your package requires an indirect signature, then you can leave a note with your signature on the door and we will leave the package. If your package requires a direct or adult signature, then we must get a signature from someone inside the house and they must be over 21 for the adult signature. We can't get around this requirement because the sender pays extra for this service.

Now if you know that you will never be home and your package requires the direct or adult signature, there are ways around this requirement. If you live in an apartment, you can have the package delivered to the office. If you live near the delivery hub or a FedEx Office (formerly known as Kinko's), you can call the 1-800 number on the door tag and have your package held at the hub or the Kinko's for you to pick-up at your convenience.

It's a pain, but if the driver doesn't follow the rules, they can be disciplined or fired...

You can also log on to the FedEx website and schedule for the package to be held at a local store or hub, as long as you have the door tag number. I missed a delivery last month (Expensive watch sent to jeweler in NY for repair) and the driver left a door tag. I sued that number to have it held at a local FedEx store and picked it up the next day. It was quite easy and much appreciated, since I work every day until 6 and most likely wouldn't have been home for any of the subsequent delivery attempts. :D
