Root Horrid battery life on my admire

I luv trolling

Well-Known Member
As of late (since about 3 weeks ago) my samsung admire goes from a full charge to a red battery indication in about 6 hours of complete inactivity as opposed to the typical 3-4 days of battery life without activity. Wifi's off, hardly any texting or calling let alone browsing or gaming. I had been using the admired monster 5.3 rom with the pressy4pie 1.2ghz kernel so i decided to flash cyanogenmod 7 and its kernel to see if it was an issue with the higher clockrate. After flashing the rom i removed the battery and let it sit for 2 hours. Charged it up but am still experiencing the low battery issues...during this time of inactivity the phone remains fairly cool so background processes are most likely not the culprit. I also noticed that the phone gets very hot when charging. The phone is about 7 months old so i doubt it could be a faulty battery. The phone does spend some days (2 days at most) without recieving any charge and being dead so its possible the battery has lost a bit of capacity. Any way I can find out for sure?

Well I've heard that cellular data consumes more battery so it's better to have wifi on( I keep mines on all the time when I'm at home) and also letting your battery completely die is worse for it's health than constantly charging it so that could also play a factor. If you think the cpu speed is the problem try setcpu from the play store (it's a paid app) and adjust it to your preference.

Actually the phone tends to get a bit warmer when its clocked at anything that's not 800-1000 (lower or higher). I doubt it's data as I have data disabled.

Kage was half right about the battery drain. Lithium Ion batteries do not have a "memory" like old the NiCad rechargables, but it still can happen. Its still a good idea to run your battery until the phone shuts off before charging to 100% without interruption. However, its not nearly as crucial and some say unnecessary but it can't hurt. Also, not sure about other Admires, but when mine is done charging, it tells me to unplug it. This tells me there.probably isn't a voltage regulator to stop charging when its complete so you shouldnt charge it over night as it can damage the battery over time. Another thing to avoid is heavy multitasking and/or overclocking while charging. I almost burned up my phone because I was overclocked to 900mhz while running GPS on a road trip so I was plugged in to a charger. It was draining as fast as I could charge it and my phone was scorching hot when we stopped for gas. After that, for about two weeks, my phone had issues charging and never held a good charge for long periods. I go from 80% down to 26% just chillin over night. I recommend just coughing up the cash for an extended life battery and start fresh

Im not interested in maintaining the admire in top shape as im planning on upgrading to google's next iteration of nexus phones as I really enjoy my nexus 7.

The phone's battery info reports 57% cell standby and 44% idle. Could this be a result of having data on when no data is in range? From now on I'm going to leave data disabled since I only text and call with this phone at the moment and see how it turns out. I've also gone ahead and flashed the AROMA ROM which i feel is a bit lighter than the others to see if that also helps.

Nope that just refers to when your screen is off and you aren't using your phone.
