Hot spot app ??

Why do you need an app? Go to menu>settings>wireless and network>tethering.

If you are talking about evading charges, no one will help you here.

If you examine the policy change closely you will see that we will no longer thwart the discussion of apps that enable tethering. However, we still do not condone circumventing your TOS agreement.

I didn't ask anyone to condone it. Just discuss it.

Don't misinterpret what I'm saying. I am not judging you and it is a highly controversial subject among the staff. We've been discussing it at great length for the past several weeks trying to wrap our head around the site owners policy and present a general consensus to him so he could revise the policy.

Personally I think that my carrier (AT&T) is overly greedy to charge so much for tethering when I may only do it once in a great while, but I did sign the agreement so I will abide by it. I wouldn't have a problem if the offered a 2GB plan at $25/month without tethering or a 2 GB plan at $30/month with tethering, but to add $30/month when I doubt I will tether 2GB of data in a year is too much.

I still am tied to my contract so I will not tether without paying (so I don't currently tether, even though I can). I would urge others to do the same, but I understand that many people do without consequences. In any event I don't feel comfortable assisting others in circumventing a contract they signed so I won't post that information myself, but we are no longer obligated to remove that same information if others post it.

It is still a difficult subject for many of us to deal with, but I hope that clarifies my position on the matter.

WOW. I didn't realize that it was that expensive there. I mean my $20 unlimited data plan lets me use full unlimited tethering. There are days I use more than 2GB on that day alone.

I don't think you will be able to renew that contract without a changed data plan. The telcos regret selling the ones like yours. You can't get that same contract, new, today. The telcos claim our tethering explodes their related costs.
Personally I think that's mostly BS. They just use that claim to justify charging us expensive rates.
And since all telcos, afaik, use the same m.o. I think that may be regarded a kartel, which, in most developed countries is legally considered organized crime...

Now the only thing we need is someone to take them on!

If you were talking about my data plan, I can renew. I am not in the US, if you'd like to know. I don't even have to renew the contract after a given amount of time. Basically its a SIM only contract which automatically renews yearly, I'll just get a warning that it will automatically renew if I dont reply STOP. And they still advertise this contract type on TV. My classmate just got the same contract a few weeks ago. :)

The additional plan to tether is primarily a U.S. thing, although I think there may be one or two UK carriers who do that.
