How big is the market for a good Memo application

multiple times - I desperately wanted it to work.

Question - 30 categories? My versions of Palm Desktop only allowed 15.

Agree. While I see some benefits to cloud computing, I can't have it be my only choice. Too often I'm not in range of wireless and no WiFi available.
 
Dev: Sync notes to Outlook! There are about a gabillion people using the notes, todo, memo and calendar on outlook. I bought the droid knowing that it would not support outlook out of the box, but hoping that it would soon. Palm, BB, Winmo all sync. The whole business community uses this! Not cloud sync, not gdoc sync, business run on out outlook and pop, or exchange.

You don't know me, but after 40 yrs I seldom inform anyone unless I'm quite sure of my statement. Not saying that what I state might not be stated in the clearest manner, however I'm quite sure you DID NOT follow the instructions. Not that you don't think you didn't follow then, but I bet you think you did or interpret the instructions but they meant something else. Wheww !!

I had /have 396 memos in 12 categories (14 - two were dummies) All imported perfectly. (as it seems (G) also had success)

I have an idea but don't have the time to explain accurately. But I expect that you exported the palm memos by category to separate csv files, then imported with the incorrect option. WDIK

This developer has to be the best developer I have EVER encountered. I contacted him via email about the issue of many memos to import. He responded , I replied with sample of palm export csv files and a link to how he could install the palm desktop itself to test with (its basically free to all and still one of the best standalone PIMs) and a suggestion of what I think could be implemented easily.

So in a few days he replied and sent out the updated program !! Just amazing. I believe he is German, so maybe his terminology may be a bit different.

Pretty good !

I had to double check - I had not noticed that there was an extra line for each original EOL/NL character - recall this happening in other systems. Also recall it was a PITA to work around. ;)

Also - did you notice that gDocs has implemented sub-folders? Wow - bet this will be used by 3rd parties.

I am prepared to bu a note taking app....as soon as it synchs with MS Outlook Notes.

so far i haven't found one.
 
OMG - I'm testing GooMemo now. THIS one has serious potential. It has almost everything I want, except for automatic sync to a desktop app (easily replaced by 3rd party sync).

Well, 2 people being able to do it against at least 300 people (that I've read in several different forums and app comments)... I'm happy that you stumbled upon the right way to do it. I tried it as separate categories, and as a full export. I tried manipulating the csv based on a sample exported csv that Note Everything made. Based on the hundreds of others that had the exact same result as I did, obviously there is more going on here than you can presume. Note Everything works for many things and many people, but it doesn't fit my bill, plain and simple. Don't take it so personally and lash out at others that don't like the same thing you like.

I hear ya on that. I'm still mulling some decisions based on relying on clouds. I think I'm okay with it as long as it's redundant and non-destructive to locally stored data. I'm pretty sure I'm not a fan of cloud-only data. I can't guarantee that I'll always have internet access, and don't want to be subject to server maintenance, etc.

LOL - If a program works ONCE it will do the SAME thing EVERY time forever!

3rd party sync app that I'm currently messing with is Best Sync 2010. It's not perfect, but it's better than the other dozen I tried these last few days. I'll be able to keep the files on the SD card current with files across my office networks for DocsToGo and what ever note pad I end up with.
 
I would love to replace my Centro with a newer smartphone but will not do so until there a way that I can continue to transfer my Memos, Contacts and Calendar and still keep selected records as "private" and to Hotsync to my desktops., and without my data being hosted in the "cloud."
 
I need a good memo program that works as smoothly as Palm OS

I would need it to:


  • Allow notes to be placed individually in folders or categories
  • Allow new notes to be entered directly into an open folder without having to enter notes and then assign to folder.
  • Would need to sync to desktop to back up and allow notes entered on the computer to be reached on the phone.
  • Allow for private notes
  • Easy access to notes (not multiple steps)
  • Notes residing on phone as well as desktop
I have not found a note program that allows for that
 
I have tried most of the memo apps and found note everything to be the best. I switched from palm with over 200 memos and note everything did the transfer in seconds! The developer is outstanding.....he emailed me 4 times because I did it wrong....he steped me through it very patiently. Note everything is also constantly getting updates with new features as well.

I couldn't agree more. I love this app. What I love even more is that it also lets you "jot" things down with your finger -- so you can draw a quick map, or just write a quick phone number without having to deal with any of the keyboards... just like "Memo Pad" was on the Palm.
 
Because I started this thread, I wanted to record my decision now that I have an Android phone (HTC Evo). I used Note Everything because of its ability to import from Palm memos. The import process worked properly for 326 memos in 12 categories. The only minor issue was that Windows line endings (CR/LF) were not converted to Linux (LF), so there is some extra spacing. I may re-import after converting line endings myself, but probably won't bother.

Note Everything has many more features than PalmOS Memo app, including hierarchical folders, notes that are photos or hand-drawn, and checklists. I bought the Pro version after successfully import partly to try out the new feature but mainly to thank the developer by sending him a few dollars.

Same here. This is a fantastic app that's totally useful.
 
Can someone help out with this? I tried most of the above and most of them are good for my needs as all I use my memo/notes for really simple.

The one thing I cannot do is drag a note to the top or move it around in the listing from top to bottom.

I could do that in my Palm Centro but can't do it yet here.

Does anyone know of a memo/note app with this ability?

If you add "ability to import existing notes from a .cvs file" to that list of features I would be all over it. I migrated from a Blackberry where I had ~200 notes, and I am not eager to re-type those into a memo app on my Droid....
 
There are several threads about this... I use colornote just to jot down notes... but at work and home, I'm all about using MS One Note, and it sucks that I can't easily sync the docs. I've resorted to emailing the tabs each as a document, either Word or PDF for the ability to reference them on the phone.

Another thread talks about MobileNoter being ported to Android, that apparently has full OneNote sync capabilities over pc wifi sync or over cloud syncing (additional fee)... but the app seems pricey.
