Being connected to Wi-Fi and having internet are not the same thing, although a Wi-Fi network makes internet access much easier. However, as @Hadron points out: if the router you're connected with isn't connected to internet OR it isn't giving your device access to it, then it's like connecting a garden hose to a faucet and turning the handle - but unless that faucet is connected to the water supply, you ain't gettin' water. Try a different Wi-Fi network somewhere and see if that helps.
