Root How can I get my old commando with a broken screen

I gave my commando to my son when I got my new Razr,he loves it. But there's a problem. The screen quit working and he put a pattern unlock app on the phone. The screen only works on the right 1/3 of the screen so I can't get passed the screen lock to get his stuff off of it. I wanted to back up his rom and get the stuff he wants.
Is there a way to get into it . I tried abd but I think I left the usb debugging off because it does'nt show a device. If I could get it to the GNM recovery screen I could do a backup of the rom. So is there a way to do that if the usb debugging is turned off, and there's no way I can get to the menu to change it
Thanks, for any help

Try this it may work or not. I have done it and it works for me. Ok get cmd window up and type adb reboot recovery. Dont hit enter yet. Have usb cable ready to plug into phone. Reboot phone plug in cable. When the phone goes from gzone to gzone loading hit enter. It should reboot you to into recovery. Then you can back up phone do a data/factory reset. It almost sounds like the lock app is messing with the screen to me. Good luck

This option may work if you have GNM recovery, which it sounds like you do. Also the firmware *needs* to be M130. In that release, they made a way to get to a "hard key reset". when the phone is powering on, watch the charge led for a red light that should come on for about a full second, in between the gzone and gzone loading. When the light is active, quickly press and release the power, camra, and volume down keys at the same time. that should bring you to a screen that says "hard key reset" press the power button to confirm, and it will reboot into recovery.
Yes, it says that it will erase all your data, but if you have GNM recovery, that will not happen, as far as i know. It says E: syntax error or something, so all data is kept. I use it all the time when I am testing things on my phone.
I would use it as a last resort, but if you have no other way, I would try it.

Unfortunately I am on M080. I've repeatedly tried all suggestions but it not being recognized . Thank you for your help, I'll keep trying

the only way i can think of is use the bootloader/fastboot method to enable adb so you can reboot into recovery. does the screen allow you to do any "emergency" calls?

yes I can get the emergency call screen to come up, but the center numbers don't work and the screen will not rotate. I'm afraid I've lost this one to a hardware failure. It's a shame to it was a great little phone to give my son for his first smartphone. Thank you for your help

i just got one off of ebay and should have done a little research first it seems.
so, i don't know what version I have, but i can't do the 3 key reset. The red light doesn't come on while booting. it does have a PTT button, and i can dial on the emergency pad, but it won't accept the programming menu (##PROGRAM ->dial) it spits out that it's not an emergency number.
also, it seems that USB debugging was not enabled

side note, there is a wireframe sphere icon in the taskbar that i have no idea what it is. Probably just an app I'm not familiar with.

oh, also, a pattern lock on the screen.

So I messed with all kinds of crap to try to re flash it and got no where. Back on ebay I guess.
Lots of good info on this board btw.
I think I'll be sticking around.
Just not with a casio. With the trusty incredible og.

and just to show what command i used (in case i did something wrong)

using fastboot to reboot to the bootloader? fastboot would be the bootloader mode itself. If you are trying to get it to do something while it is booting it will not work.
the only other option maybe would be to get it to download mode from qpst? but i think that is modem download mode.
i would get in contact with the person that sold it and ask for their pattern to unlock it. they should have at least told it to you or removed it or something.

If you are taking screenshots you are too early, I'm talkin when it first powers up, it vibrates, shows unlit G'zOne, then it kites up, and then the red led comes on. Thats when you press it. If you are watching the G'zOne boot animation you waited too long.
