Hi guys, I'm new to android rooting but I have a rooted S5 (which I brought to my carrier to root) and I want to update to lollipop but I know that once I do, I'll lose root. Does anyone know how I can update without losing root? And could you please kindly show me a step by step process :) my phone model number Is GM900HXXU1ANG3. Thank you in advance!

If you want to use official updates then you will lose root when you update. That's it. Personally I'd be wary of applying OTA updates to a rooted phone anyway.

You can switch to using custom ROMs if you want. Those will be pre-rooted, but then you update by yourself by flashing a newer ROM.

Those are the options I'm afraid - what you are asking for isn't available.

You could try Kies but I'm sure that will remove root too (and probably won't work if you've modified the system. Or just odin it and reroot after.
PS are you simply rooted or do you have custom recovery and have you uninstalled any system apps?

You may be able to update officially, but as you said yourself you'll need to re-root after that.

I'm not a Samsung owner, so cannot advise on updating using kies or re-rooting after a Lollipop update. The best bet would be to ask in our S5 forum.

P.S. Welcome to the forum :)
