how can i use 2d codes

Is there an app out there that lets me track where i scan the code at. In my work I track alot of equipment that is used over a 100 squre miles, so if i loose track of where someone put something it takes for ever to find it again. What i would like to be able to do is attach a 2d code to a piece of equipment and when i scan it with my phone have it appear on a map that i can easily look at and see where everythign i have out is at once. and rescan it to say i picked it up and is available for issue again.
