How come and memory question.

When I exit an app it doesn't truly exit. I have to go into task manager to "kill it".

With any kind of regular os like linux, windows, mac, when I exit an app it's gone.

This would be like having to press control alt detele everytime I wanted to close a program.

I don't understand why android doesn't do this, as all those running applications take up memory.

Also, how come my phone (evo 3d) has 1GB of ram, but even with all applications killed it still uses 632 mb? My old phone (zio) had 512mb and it still had 200 left.

Mine is using 322mb of 377mb... Android is supposed to be more efficient leaving apps "open". They don't draw any power if not in use. They actually take more power to reopen if you kill them (and many reopen automatically). If you need more RAM Android automatically closes apps that have not been used in a while. You should never run out of RAM "in theory"...
