Help How do delete recent apps

rcyphermd

When I touch the icon at the bottom, all the recent apps are listed. On the S8, you close them all with one touch. Can you do that on the Pixel?

Speeds up the phone. Saves battery

Nope. Note that it is RECENT apps, not RUNNING apps. That's just a list of static thumbnails representing applications which you've used. The list persists after a reboot, too.

There is zero correlation between an app appearing in the Recents view and it actually running in the background.

Even if there was, obsessively killing background apps is a bad thing. It interferes with the process lifecycle management already built into Android and can actually make the phone work harder.

You can actually clear them all at once. If you swipe down so you're at the very top of the recent apps, there is a clear all option.

And I learned something today - thanks @Brian706!

I still maintain that it's completely unnecessary from a performance standpoint, but at least there is a way to clear those if you just don't like the clutter.
