How do I access my group contacts in Google's Messages app for Android?

Bob Brannon

Lurker
I am using Google's Messages App for texting. I can find no way, from within the app, to send a group message using the groups I have already set-up in my contacts. Is there some way I am not aware of?

The only way I can find is to select the group in my contacts and then send the message from there. But that is indirect, an inefficient round-a-bout way. Any help would be appreciated.

I just re-enabled it to have a poke around, but can't see anything.

My normal SMS apps (Chomp or Textra) can do this easily: hit the compose button, then press the "app recipients" icon (a + and a couple of head+shoulders profiles) then just go to the groups tab in the list that appears. So if you can't find a way of making Messages do it then there's always the option of using a different app (standard Android solution to such problems: if the built-in app doesn't do what you want, there's probably another one whuch does).

Yes, I knew that was an option, just wanted to know if I was missing something in this one. Verizon's Message+ has issues so I've been using the one I posted about. Don't like to have to make all these changes and trials and searches.
